As an American musician, Mat Kearney was born in Eugene but raised in Nashville. Over the course of his career, he has been known for his soft pop, soft rock, folk, and hip hop sound. He has been associated with some of the best record labels in the industry, including InPop, Columbia, Aware, and Universal Republic. As a young kid, he would attend California State University in Chico. He would play soccer until his junior year but become interested in music after traveling to Nashville. He would begin focusing on music and play simple songs or rap. Eventually, he would decide to move to Nashville to record a few demos, but I had no plans of returning to California.
Throughout his recording career, he has made numerous albums, includingNothing Left to Lose, which would earn him commercial success from the very start. He would have multiple songs on different TV shows, includingGrey’s Anatomy and NCIS. He toured with individuals such as Keane and The Helio Sequence for several weeks, promoting many of his own songs and his album,City of Black & White. His musical style has been noted as more mature and more adult contemporary, especially as he has grown older. He is comfortable and known for extending his own genres, focusing on the ways that he can stretch and push himself to the extreme to make wonderful music.
In his personal life, he currently resides in Nashville with his wife Annie who he married in 2010. His niece also lives in Nashville as well, and he has worked as a music supervisor for multiple different TV shows over the years. He remarked one time an interview, talking about how his legal name is an error due to the birth certificate. He discovered the error, and he has since embraced the fact that he only has one “T” in his name. He also has two daughters, one born in 2017 and the other born in 2020.
