ABOUT DOCTORS WITHOUT BORDERS

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international medical humanitarian organization created by doctors and journalists in France in 1971.

Today, MSF provides aid in nearly 60 countries to people whose survival is threatened by violence, neglect, or catastrophe, primarily due to armed conflict, epidemics, malnutrition, exclusion from health care, or natural disasters. MSF provides independent, impartial assistance to those most in need. MSF reserves the right to speak out to bring attention to neglected crises, to challenge inadequacies or abuse of the aid system, and to advocate for improved medical treatments and protocols.

In 1999, MSF received the Nobel Peace Prize.

Today they continue their hard work through long lines of patients waiting for treatment and surgery in Haiti, as the country was again shaken anew by powerful aftershocks.

EVENT DETAILS

We’ve all watched the news and have seen the scenes of devastation in the streets of Haiti. The damage done to the people of this country is terribly heartbreaking, the images terrifying. It’s clear that there is a great deal of work to be done to help rebuild their nation. As San Franciscans, we particularly relate to the tragedy of an earthquake. We are compelled to take action.

Our humble contribution is a music series called “
In the Name of Love” (INL), where a portion of the proceeds from each event go to Doctors Without Borders, who are effectively serving those in need on the ground in Haiti with a sense of urgency. Now 19 events put together quickly, with the support of the local music community.

We invite you to participate in this heartfelt evenings of live music and fundraising at the
Red Devil Lounge in San Francisco. Thanks to Dave Wakeling of the English Beat, INL has also expanded to Los Angeles and New Orleans, with the English Beat and Fishbone performing there and raising additional funds.

An incredible thank you to all the bands, volunteers and supporters, who have helped enable us to produce these events.
